Automated heat detection in real time – Increases insemination success at lower reproduction costsBönen, June 21, 2012 – When is the best time for optimal insemination of a cow? As of now, GEA Farm Technologies offers a next solution for automated heat detection. For farmers, the timely heat detection can be labor- and cost intensive. CowScout S, an electronic stand-alone monitoring-system, measures the activity of the cows automatically around the clock in real time. It takes over the labor intensive animal observation and recognizes cows in heat at the right time. With the new CowScout S milk producers have access to the latest reproduction data of their herd via Internet to their Smartphone, tablet computer or PC. That implies: location-independent and reliable reproduction management with less labor at optimized costs.
CowScout S is based on the method of activity measurement, which reliably observes a heat by measuring the increased activity of a cow compared to her norm. Sensors automatically monitor the motions of individual animals at all times and send, every five to 15 minutes, the measured activity via antennas and receivers to the processing unit from CowScout S. The transmission takes place via ultra-high frequencies. When connecting the process unit to the internet, the farmer can access the data at any location via a simple access to a web portal. An activity alarm can also be sent directly via E-mail.

As a stand-alone-system, CowScout S is especially suitable for farmers who would like to get into automation in a cost-effective way. It can be applied irrespective of farm size or milking parlor type. There are no interruptions with already existing ISO-Identification systems. The reproduction data is conveyed undisturbed with up to four antennas on two channels per process unit. Each antenna has a reach of 30 to 50 meters, depending on the building material of the stable. All data stored in the process unit is clearly rehashed by different graphical views. On the process unit itself is a clearly visible alarm light for the activity notice.
Independent of farm size, parlor type and degree of automation, CowScout S offers an innovative solution for effective heat detection. Through the location-independent availability of the reproduction data in real time no activity notice is overlooked and the right insemination time found. Therewith CowScout S is an essential component for successful reproduction management. With the monitoring system, GEA Farm Technologies extends its position as “Total Solution Provider”.
